A couple years ago I started giving new attention to my long-term goals and hopes. I started making a list—as you do, when you want to bring your ideas out of the ether into the real world. And I realized most of what I was writing down were places I wanted to go and people I wanted to see again. I also realized that I had no unbreakable ties (children, mortgage, dream job, etc.), which won't always be the case, and a decent amount saved, so this could be my once-in-a-lifetime chance to actually do some serious traveling.

About two years later I quit my architecture job, stored my last couple boxes of belongings in a friend's basement, and stuffed the rest into a backpack. It took me about 22 months to circle the globe! I learned so much about the world, myself, and our relationship with animals and food. I've shared my thoughts, photos, and videos on this blog, when they felt meaningful to me. I hope you enjoy it!
